Jamila Rizvi: Political Advisor to Columnist, Author and Presenter

Jamila Rizvi started her career in politics. Her first job out of university was working for the then Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd. From her role as an advisor in politics, Jamila took her career into media, where she worked at the online news site mama mia which grew to become the leading voice for women in Australia under her watch.
Today, Jamila is the Chief Creative Officer for the Nine Network's Future Women. Jamila writes regular columns for Australia’s leading newpapers and has written and edited four books. During Melbourne’s strict lockdown this year, Jamila has written and produced two books: Untold Resilience, is a collection of stories of women’s strength and courage in extraordinary situations and world events. And I’m a Hero Too is a children’s book she wrote in order to help children process what has happened in 2020.
I spoke to Jamila about her career journey and how she made each career change along the way. But what gave me such touching insight into her career and her resilience is her experience dealing with a recurring brain tumour, two brain surgeries and how she now approaches her career having been through such life-altering experiences. She has a perspective that is truly unique. It will you reason to pause and consider your own definitions of success. So please enjoy a very special episode of Freedom Hunters.
